Opportunities Credit Union stands in solidarity with Black communities. We support ending systemic racism and police violence. We have never questioned that Black Lives Matter. OCU shares the outrage about the systemic racism plaguing our country. We reaffirm our 30-year commitment to racial justice.
As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI,) serving low-income communities is our basic business. We work hard every day to bring people along the asset path to financial security. We help the unbanked restore their financial lives. We work with people who find themselves in foreclosure or other debt traps and – for free – counsel them and help them avoid financial scams. We have always been committed to using our resources for the goal of equity for Black, New American, and minority communities.
OCU believes all people deserve to be treated with dignity. Because of this, we commit to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in our staff and our leadership.
We are fully aware that the wealth gap has robbed many Americans of the American Dream. We will continue to work within the financial system to support prosperity among lower-earning Vermonters who comprise over 80% of our membership.
We are actively anti-racist. We will intentionally and diligently continue to support Black, New American, and minority communities through our services, products, and policies. To honor our members, staff, and volunteers, we will seek ways to listen to Black perspectives.
