One family’s journey began in a strife-torn country thousands of miles away. They found Vermont to be a stable home for their children and the grandparents.
Both parents had good jobs. Mom was even able to finish her undergraduate degree while working full-time. Even Mom’s co-workers, who knew her degree would be a ticket to a better job, were delighted for her. Last Fall, she graduated and found a better job a couple of miles away.

Through the Lift Up grant program offered by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, Opportunities was able to obtain a $50,000 grant for this New American family.
When we learned the grant had been approved, our reaction went beyond smiles. We high fived. We whooped. And we definitely smiled.
